In recognition of National Poison Prevention Week, March 20-26, the New York State Division of Consumer Protection is reminding New Yorkers of prevention measures to reduce the risk of poisoning. Established in 1961, National Poison Prevention Week raises awareness of unintentional poisonings and offers information to help consumers prevent poisonings, especially among children.

Niagara County announces façade grant program for businesses

The Niagara County Center for Economic Development announced the launch of the new Niagara County Façade Program (NCFP). The NCFP will provide matching grants up to $50,000 for eligible businesses in order to rejuvenate their properties to help bring vibrancy to the central business districts in communities across the county. The county has allocated $3 million for the program through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Catholic Health secures $58.5m in bond financing to fund new Lockport Memorial Hospital

Catholic Health announced Tuesday it has secured orders from several investors for $58.5 million in bonds to fund construction of its Lockport Memorial Hospital. In addition to the new hospital, which will become a campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Niagara County, the bond financing will support cardiac catheterization room renovations at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and other small infrastructure projects across the system.

$232 million in additional food assistance for New Yorkers in March

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for March. All households participating in SNAP - including those already at the maximum level of benefits -will receive a supplemental allotment this month, which will result in New York state's economy receiving roughly $232 million in federal funding.
