National Alliance on Mental Illness family support groups are for adult family members and caregivers (over age 18) of a loved one living with mental illness. They are described as a safe, confidential place to receive support, as well as referrals to needed resources. Groups are led by trained NAMI member volunteers with family experience of a loved one living with mental illness.

New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez recently announced work will continue in Western New York to upgrade traffic signals with yellow arrow phases to more safely accommodate motorists making left turns at intersections. Traffic signals featuring a flashing yellow arrow phase will be installed at more locations as intersection improvements are made.

The Buffalo Department of Public Works is alerting motorists who use Delaware Avenue, Gates Circle, Lafayette Avenue, Chapin Parkway and West Delavan Avenue to expect intermittent street closures and lane restrictions as milling and paving takes place between Gates Circle and West Delavan Avenue.

The Niagara County Historical Society's popular summer children's education programs will return this year. Children aged 7 to 11 can participate in one, several, or all of these five-or-six-hour daytime programs, which include historical backgrounds, crafts, outdoor events and other activities.

On Friday, New York State Sen. Sean Ryan was joined by local elected officials and community leaders to announce plans for a pocket park at a former industrial site on Niagara Street. The project will be funded by a $250,000 New York state grant secured by Ryan. Buffalo Common Council member David Rivera's office secured an additional $40,000 for project planning costs.

Wingo Sr. and American Medical Response, a leader in the delivery of 911 emergency and non-emergency interfacility transportation throughout Erie and Niagara counties, will offer two free "Stop the Bleed" trainings to Buffalo-area residents. The trainings, which will be held this Saturday at Delavan-Grider Community Center, are focused on empowering individuals to help in bleeding emergencies.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced a federal grant totaling $645,259 awarded to The Service Collaborative of Western New York. Funded by the American Rescue Plan and fiscal year 2022 appropriations, the AmeriCorps grant will provide support for the AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) Early Childhood Program, which helps close education gaps among preschool students in Western New York.

Assemblyman Angelo Morinello is sponsoring a free car seat safety check at the Niagara SPCA from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 23. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office will be on site inspecting car seats to help ensure child safety. There will be a variety of food, including hot dogs, baked goods and ice cream available for sale. The Niagara County SPCA also will have meet-and-greet pet adoptions.
