Tops Markets raises $288,000+ for Children's Miracle Network campaign

Tops Friendly Markets has once again raised much-needed funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH). The fundraising campaign which officially kicked off Sunday, June 20, at all participating Tops Friendly Markets locations, ran through Saturday, July 3. In total Tops helped raise $288,419,000.

City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Krog Group founder and CEO Peter L. Krog announced the $112 million adaptive reuse of the historic TRICO windshield wiper plant is "moving full steam ahead." The project, one of the largest in the city's history, was put on hold in March 2020, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, following the completion of brownfield remediation and partial demolition.

Empire State Development: Linde to invest in PEM electrolyzer plant in Niagara County

Empire State Development announced Linde, a global industrial gases and engineering company, is expanding the scope of its North American PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolyzer project in Niagara Falls, which will now include a 35 MW electrolyzer plant. The new expanded project replaces a previously announced $17 million proposal.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced federal grant funding totaling $300,000 awarded to Temple Beth Zion in Buffalo and Temple Beth-El in Niagara Falls. Funded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and awarded through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), the grants will support security enhancements at nonprofit organizations that are at a high risk for terrorist attacks.

City of Buffalo Division of Parks and Recreation announces new hours & fee schedule for 2 indoor pools

The City of Buffalo's indoor swimming pools will return to their pre-summer hours, starting Tuesday, Sept. 6, following a summer of free, extended hours. The city's Cazenovia Park and Lovejoy pools were open on weekends, and expanded weekday schedules from July 1 through Labor Day in response to the extreme shortage of certified lifeguards, which forced Buffalo's outdoor swimming and wading pools to remain closed this summer.

NFPD investigating shooting

Shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Ninth Street. Upon arrival, the officers found a 30-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Police immediately began to render aid to the victim before he was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Once there, he was pronounced deceased.
Beat the heat at City of Buffalo's splash pads & indoor pools

DEC begins emergency clean-up response to coal tar discharges to Scajaquada Creek Harbor from pumphouse

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced today that DEC's spill response unit is beginning work to contain and eliminate coal tar and other hazardous substances from entering the lower section of Scajaquada Creek from a pumphouse at Niagara Street near Scajaquada Creek's outlet to the Black Rock Canal in Buffalo.

Completion of Rosina Food Products' new $73 million food manufacturing plant in West Seneca

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced Rosina Food Products Inc. has completed a $73.2 million expansion, adding a facility in West Seneca. Sections of Genesee and E. Huron streets in downtown Buffalo remain closed as emergency sewer repairs continue

The Buffalo Sewer Authority is continuing to repair a sewer line that collapsed earlier this week beneath Genesee Street in downtown Buffalo. Due to that work, Genesee Street remains closed between Washington and East Huron streets, and East Huron Street is closed between Main and Washington streets. Motorists are asked to use West Mohawk Street as a detour around the impacted area.
'Murder at the Mansion' to raise funds for Breast Cancer Network

The Breast Cancer Network of WNY (BCN) is presenting a fundraiser to benefit research for metastatic breast cancer. The event on Sept. 30 at The Mansion on Delaware is titled "Murder at the Mansion." It is an interactive murder mystery cocktail party that includes a professionally presented murder mystery show.
