On May 14, the Buffalo community suffered a devastating act of violence when a gunman opened fire at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue on the east side of the city, killing 10 people and wounding three.

Community resource center providing support & services to Buffalo residents impacted by violence

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Office of Victim Services and the Buffalo Police Department on Tuesday announced the establishment of a community resource center to provide trauma-informed support and immediate services to residents who have been impacted by the tragedy that occurred on Jefferson Avenue, and the closure of Tops Friendly Markets due to the ongoing criminal investigation.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for May. All households participating in SNAP - including those already at the maximum level of benefits - will receive a supplemental allotment this month, resulting in a roughly $234 million infusion of federal funding into the New York state economy.

Missing kayaker identified

Park Police have identified a missing kayaker as 54-year-old Paul Hahn of Amherst. It is believed that Hahn launched his kayak at Golden Hill State Park between Friday, April 22, and Monday, April 25l went out onto Lake Ontario, and has not been seen since.

Higgins: $36 million+ in additional HEAP funding available to New Yorkers

It might be almost May, but it is still snowing in Buffalo. To help Western New Yorkers with the cost of heating bills, Congressman Brian Higgins announced $36 million in additional federal funding to New York state for the Home Energy Assistance Program. This latest award brings the total funding provided to New Yorkers for HEAP to over $918 million, the largest state allocation in the nation.
