Max and Brook were planning to get rid of years' worth of clutter from their Niagara Falls home, including furniture, clothing and even a set of snow tires. They got to planning and decided to include their neighbors. They made a flyer and hand-delivered them to people they knew around the block. The response was positive, and they decided to post a yard sign on a few lawns to see if there was extended interest.

The Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) will bring its 151st annual convention to Niagara Falls, from Aug. 8-12 at the Sheraton Niagara Falls and the Niagara Falls Convention Center. Almost 1,000 people, including volunteer firefighters and their guests from across New York state, vendors and visiting dignitaries, will attend the convention and related events.

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball announced applications are open to New York organizations for the FreshConnect CSA for SNAP program. This program will help to give Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants in New York increased access to weekly shares of fresh, locally grown produce through community-supported agriculture (CSA) initiatives by defraying up to half the cost, while also lending additional support to New York's farmers and producers.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 29-year-old Kente Q. Bell of Buffalo was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to 18 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. He was sentenced today as a second violent felony offender.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she signed legislation to address the minimum age of lifeguards at children's camps. Legislation (S.6467-A/A.5821A) will require lifeguards for children's camps to be at least 17 years of age except that up to 50% of the required number of lifeguards on duty may be at least 15 years of age if they are under the supervision of a camp aquatics director. Lifeguards required for wilderness swimming must be at least 18 years of age.

On Tuesday, KeyBank hosted its 32nd annual "Neighbors Make the Difference Day." From 1-5 p.m., hundreds of teammates in Buffalo spent time volunteering with community organizations at more than 40 service projects in the region. They joined thousands of KeyBank teammates nationwide in receiving paid time off to volunteer at more than 500 projects in the neighborhoods where they live and work.
