Kathy Hochul announced free child car seat checks by certified child passenger safety technicians will be available across the state during Child Passenger Safety Week, which starts Sunday, Sept. 17, and concludes with National Seat Check Saturday on Sept. 23. As part of the National Federation of Just Communities national conference in Buffalo this week, members on Wednesday took a daytrip to Lewiston. Their tour bus stopped at the Freedom Crossing Monument on Water Street, and they were greeted by Sally and Josiah Tryon (aka Eva Nicklas and Tim Henderson). The two Lewiston legends recounted tales of first coming to the village, efforts to lead people to freedom, and the story behind Susan Geissler's famed bronze statue.

On Friday, electronics recycler Sunnking presented a $9,875.01 check to Camp Good Days and Special Times, a nonprofit organization helping children and families with cancer. The funds were raised as a part of Sunnking's 13th annual "e-Scrap for Camp" fundraiser. The company saw 323 area businesses participate in the electronics recycling donation drive between Buffalo and Rochester.

Life Without Limbs and Kingdom Bound Ministries have announced three nights of inspiration and hope when motivational speaker Nick Vujicic brings his "Rise Victorious" events to Buffalo this September. The event scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Brickyard Brewing Company. Not to be underestimated, two other teams with vast knowledge of Lewiston's culture and history will be looking to steal the crown from the former champs.
