With one month to go before the April 15 tax return filing deadline, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is encouraging taxpayers to take advantage of the free resources available 24/7 at www.tax.ny.gov, including the Free File program. Taxpayers with income of $72,000 or less in 2020 can electronically complete and submit their federal and New York state income tax returns online for free.

The New York State Board of Regents acted on a series of emergency regulations to allow for exemptions to diploma requirements associated with the June and August 2021 Regents examination administrations. With the COVID-19 crisis still affecting the state, and students having varied levels of in-person instruction, the board and the department are, in their word, "taking necessary steps to provide essential flexibility for the state's students, families and educators."

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced that, beginning April 2, event, arts and entertainment venues can reopen at 33% capacity, up to 100 people indoors and up to 200 people outdoors. The Buffalo History Museum will begin the next phase of restoration to the lower level of its National Historic Landmark Building. Work focuses on improving guest amenities, including new restrooms and an HVAC system. At the end of this phase of construction, the museum's lower level will be restored to the original vision of architect George Cary, with an expansive 4,400-square-foot gallery.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday announced the state has administered over 2,136,209 vaccine doses through the state's vaccination program. The total week 8 federal allocation of vaccine delivery to providers was to be completed yesterday. As of 11 a.m. Sunday, New York's health care distribution sites had received 1,874,975 first doses and already administered 87% (1,627,191) of first dose vaccinations and 76% of first and second doses. Delivery of the week 9 allocation from the federal government begins mid-week.
