On Friday, the Buffalo City Mission officially opened its new Community Center at 100 E. Tupper St. Known as the Alfiero Family Center of Hope and Promise, the 75,000-square-foot facility will provide preventative services to those who are on the brink of homelessness and many already experiencing homelessness.

As the April 1 deadline for approval of New York state's final budget nears, Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt and members of the Senate Republican conference were joined Thursday by Congressman Lee Zeldin in calling on Gov. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the start of construction for Heritage Point on the South Aud Block at Canalside in Buffalo. The project includes two approximately 103,000-square-feet mixed-use buildings separated by an open walkway that follows a portion of the historic Prime Slip. The $30 million project will be complete in fall 2022. See renderings here.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced the launch of the "Roll Up Your Sleeve" campaign to promote houses of worship of all faiths across the state to sign up as vaccination sites for their communities. Worship sites can begin to serve as points of distribution for the COVID-19 vaccine starting in April, significantly increasing the number of doses they can administer.

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA), in partnership with the New York State Development Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC), and Boston University School of Social Work's Center for Aging and Disability Education and Research (CADER), have announced a new online course designed to help the aging network workforce better understand what intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) are, and how they impact a person's life from birth to older age.

On Friday, New York State Budget Director Robert F. Mujica Jr. stated, "At the governor's direction, the Department of Tax and Finance will be extending the New York state income tax deadline to May 17 to align with the federal decision to do the same. This 30-day extension provides New Yorkers still coping with the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic ample time to file. This will shift approximately $6 billion of revenue from April to May, and the state will make any necessary adjustments to cash flow."

The Buffalo History Museum will begin the next phase of restoration to the lower level of its National Historic Landmark Building. Work focuses on improving guest amenities, including new restrooms and an HVAC system. At the end of this phase of construction, the museum's lower level will be restored to the original vision of architect George Cary, with an expansive 4,400-square-foot gallery.
