Oct. 19 was National Move Over Day, recognized on the third Saturday of October every year. A record 303 million travelers visited the great state of New York in 2023, and they need places to stay. But for New York's tourism industry to be successful and sustainable, we need a better system to manage the growth of the short-term rental industry.

A new economic impact report conducted by Parks & Trails New York (PTNY), The Political Economy Research Institute (PERI), and The National Heritage Trust finds the annual GDP of New York state parks and historic sites amounted to $3.7 billion in 2021. This economic impact rivals that of the state's agricultural sector, which generated $3.3 billion during the same year (U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis).

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced a jury found Savon R. Stewart, 30, of Buffalo, guilty of one count of murder in the second degree (class "A-I" felony). Jurors rendered their decision earlier today after approximately 40 minutes of deliberation following a six-day trial, convicting the defendant of the sole count in the indictment.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said his office has been made aware of a scam targeting E-ZPass users with fake text messages. Jastrzemski said this scam has been going after customers of tolling agencies across the country that persuades them to enter personal and/or financial information on a phony website - and it appears E-ZPass customers are now the latest targets.

Tom Golisano, entrepreneur, philanthropist and civic leader, on Tuesday announced an unprecedented and historic series of major awards totaling $360 million to 82 nonprofit organizations in Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse. This commitment nearly doubles Golisano's lifetime giving, bringing the total to $775 million, with more to be expected.
