"HOPE Day," the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving to benefit Appeal, is set for Wednesday, May 11, across Western New York. The first $75,000 raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar, with gifts from donors who wish to remain anonymous, in the ongoing effort to reach 2022's $9.5 million goal in support of Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the "Fund for the Faith." Appeal 2022 has currently raised $7,759,477, or 81% of its goal to date.

In August 2013, Lewiston resident Angelo Sarkees put into action an idea he had for some time. A recent retiree, Sarkees began collecting bottles and cans at the Lewiston Jazz Festival, with the idea of turning them in to raise funds for local Niagara County food pantries. So began his "Deposits 4 Food" initiative.
