Community Foundation announces 2022 Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Arts & Culture Initiative grantees

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo announced the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Arts & Culture Initiative awards totaling $500,000 to support more than 75 small to mid-sized arts organizations serving the eight counties of Western New York, plus Monroe County, through its inaugural 2022 competitive grants process.
Morinello, Marston partner with American Red Cross for blood drive

Assemblyman Angelo Morinello and Grand Island Deputy Supervisor Pete Marston will partner with the American Red Cross for a blood drive taking place Tuesday, Dec. 27, at the Grand Island firehall. Donation times will be between noon and 5 p.m. The American Red Cross is looking to exceed its goal of 35 donors.

NYS: $63 million to boost home energy assistance payments

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced New York has received an additional $63 million in federal funding that will be used to increase the base home heating assistance eligible households will receive. With the additional funding, eligible homeowners and renters could receive up to $1,126 from the Home Energy Assistance Program to help keep their homes warm this winter in the face of higher energy costs.
NYPA's Power Vista visitors center temporarily closed for improvements

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection has released tips to inform and empower New York consumers purchasing gift cards and gift certificates this holiday season. Any gift cards or gift certificates purchased in New York state on or after Dec. 10, 2022, will remain valid for a minimum of nine years from the date of purchase. And, when the remaining value of a gift card or gift certificate is less than $5, the recipient can opt to receive cash for the balance.

Town of Grand Island budget: Interest rate spike driving factor behind tax cap override

The proposed town tax cap override in the 2023 budget is being driven by a large increase in interest rates on $24 million borrowed by the town over a number of years. Village of Lewiston votes to increase water rate to offset new charges

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston voted Monday to approve a motion increasing the municipal water rate 8 cents - from $3.95 to $4.03 per 100 cubic feet of usage - effective Jan. 1, 2023.
