The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation announced the soon-to-open, $46 million, state-of-the-art welcome center in Niagara Falls State Park will be named the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Welcome Center at Niagara Falls State Park. The foundation has contributed $8 million toward the project.

The United Way of Buffalo & Erie County Next Generation United advisory board (NGU) announced the 2023 Pitch10 request for proposals process is now open. Selected finalists for Pitch10 in 2023 will compete for a total of $50,000 in grants - twice as much as last year - thanks to the generosity of the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, which has pledged a $25,000 matching grant to support the Pitch10 2023 prize fund.

Canisius College has successfully petitioned the New York State Education Department Board of Regents for university designation. The transition will take place during summer 2023 alongside the rollout of the first strategic plan for the university. In August, ahead of the start of the fall semester, Canisius will unveil a refreshed branding initiative to introduce the school's new identity.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart veterans by adding their name to county's Book of Honor at a ceremony to be held Sunday, Aug. 6. Jastrzemski said any Purple Heart veterans (or their family members) who are not currently in the book need to come forward by May 1 to be included in this year's ceremony.

An $8.3 million project is in full swing to replace the nearly 70-year-old Beaver Island Parkway Bridge over the I-190 section of the Thruway. Since late March, crews and heavy equipment have been tearing down the old and making way for the new, while motorists who previously took Beaver Island Exit 18B have had to follow a detour to get home, to work or to businesses on the Island since April 3.

This program ensures that children who are economically disadvantaged continue to receive nutritious meals during summer vacation. A new survey from AAA found nearly 2 in 10 drivers had to get their vehicle repaired after hitting a pothole last year. In total, an estimated 44 million drivers experienced pothole damage significant enough to require repair in 2022, up from 28 million in 2021 - a 57% increase.
