Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County's Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant (CHSC), in partnership with GoBike Buffalo, the City of Niagara Falls Department of Community Development, and the Niagara Falls City School District, is working to create safer crosswalks around schools in Niagara Falls.

Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, Congressman Brian Higgins and state and federal partners provided an up-close look Monday on the quickly progressing habitat restoration at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Ohio Street boat launch. Through the investment of Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) funding, this popular park is being enhanced to include improved wildlife habitat and public access to the Buffalo River along the Ohio Street corridor.

Bellreng's Towing and Automotive, a AAA contractor, is going pink to raise awareness of breast cancer, which will likely kill more than 40,000 women this year according to the American Cancer Society. Bellreng's has unveiled a pink customer car to transport customers who need a ride while their vehicle is being serviced.

Jacobs provides funding boost to build Cradle Beach Stem Center

New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced a major funding award of $500,000 to support the construction of a new science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education center at Cradle Beach Camp. The Western New York STEM Center for Youth will become a year-round destination for school groups and youth agencies seeking to provide hands-on experiential learning. The estimated cost of the project is slightly under $1 million.

After two whole summers removed from the New York Collegiate Baseball League, the Power have come back home to Niagara Falls. New York State Sen. Rob Ortt on Tuesday announced he secured a total of $1 million for infrastructure projects at three local hospitals. He said the funding will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. It secured by Ortt as part of the 2017-18 state budget, and supports projects at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda and Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

Internationally renowned percussionist Cyro Baptista collaborated with Buffalo-based sculptor Shasti O'Leary Soudant and students from the University at Buffalo to create a colorful, interactive work called "Beat Blossom." Both were on hand to officially debut the sound-generating instrument on Sunday at Artpark in Lewiston. A dedication ceremony and concert took place inside the Percussion Garden.

The fourth annual Hospice Gran Fondo, presented by M&T Bank, brought over 650 riders to Niagara County for the popular bicycle ride held to benefit Niagara Hospice. The event, held May 13, featured scenic routes through the Niagara Wine Trail and a post-ride party with wine tastings, food and live music.
