Debbie Dingell (D-MI-12), Darin LaHood (R-IL-18), Brian Higgins (D-NY-26) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL-12), introduced the Hemophilia Skilled Nursing Facilities Access Act - bipartisan, bicameral legislation to improve access to critical health care services provided through skilled nursing facilities (SNF) for individuals with hemophilia.

He was one of a group of people who spoke at a public hearing at the Feb. 3 Grand Island Town Board meeting on a local law regulating aggressive panhandling on public property.

Drew Bernstein is a missionary at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy on Buffalo's East Side. He is also the coordinator of its Code Blue initiative when up to 50 cots and bedding are rolled out for homeless men to escape the winter cold at night when the temperatures are below freezing. It is a place where these men can obtain a hot meal and breakfast in the morning, dry their clothing and hopefully, a good night's sleep in a safe environment.

At a ribbon-cutting for Island Family Eye Care on Jan. 29, owner Dr. Adrienne Manzo Cassata said it's been a "dream of mine for a long time. I worked for an ophthalmology practice for about 10 years and decided to branch out on my own, and I'm just so excited to be on Grand Island. It's really been a warm reception so far. ... I'm just really happy to be here serving this community."

It's also safe to say there is only one 1,000-square-foot basement on the Island referred to as "The Buffalo Sports Museum" and, after a tour, the name is perfect and it is a space any museum curator would be proud of. A countless number of Buffalo sports memorabilia meticulously fill every inch of the walls, ceiling and floor in the basement of John Boutet, sports archivist, author, athlete and a member of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors and the BFLO Experience, which is looking for a large downtown space to house the Buffalo sports, broadcasters and music halls of fame.
Erie County: Bridging communication gap between law enforcement, deaf/hard of hearing community

A new communications tool, designed to improve communications between the police and the hard of hearing and deaf community during routine law enforcement traffic stops, will soon be implemented in Erie County after being announced at the Town of Amherst Police Training Facility.

Thousands attend Greater Niagara Fishing & Outdoor Expo

Over the weekend, the seventh annual Greater Niagara Fishing and Outdoor Expo invaded downtown Niagara Falls. The event was held at the Conference and Event Center with a focus on "Teaching Fishing" to the legions of anglers that can be found in New York, Southern Ontario and other nearby states.

Schinzel along with Santa Claus and representatives of the Orchard Park Recreation Department to announce the return of Santa Land to Chestnut Ridge. The site is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7-8. Again this year, the Erie County Parks Department is partnering with the Orchard Park Recreation Department to present this popular, free event that features a full schedule of family fun on both days.
