Today, Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined by Assemblyman Patrick Burke (142nd district), Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Forestry Troy P. Schinzel, President of the Chestnut Park Conservancy Gordon Panek, and conservancy members at the Chestnut Ridge casino to announce the start of a capital campaign to fund the newest addition to the park's recreational offerings.

A former parsonage at Trinity United Methodist Church will serve as the permanent home of the Grand Island satellite of the Family Justice Center, announced the center's executive director, Mary Travers Murphy, on Jan. 9 at a community meeting at the church.

Over the weekend, the seventh annual Greater Niagara Fishing and Outdoor Expo invaded downtown Niagara Falls. The event was held at the Conference and Event Center with a focus on "Teaching Fishing" to the legions of anglers that can be found in New York, Southern Ontario and other nearby states.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined Monday by Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Forestry Troy P. Schinzel along with Santa Claus and representatives of the Orchard Park Recreation Department to announce the return of Santa Land to Chestnut Ridge. The site is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7-8. Again this year, the Erie County Parks Department is partnering with the Orchard Park Recreation Department to present this popular, free event that features a full schedule of family fun on both days.

The New York State Thruway Authority announced this week that cashless tolling customer assistance sessions will continue at the Western New York Welcome Center on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
