New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the 2021 hunting seasons in New York were the safest ever, with the lowest number of hunting-related shooting incidents since record-keeping began. DEC environmental conservation police officers investigated nine hunting-related shooting incidents (HRSIs) in 2021, including one fatality.

Lewiston resident catches ginormous fish

Last Thursday morning, 23-year-old Ben Bailey of Lewiston hauled in a 30-to-35-pound king salmon Chinook along the shoreline rocks. He used a lime yellow and reflective silver Little Cleo spoon.

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced New York's fifth "Free Fishing Day" of the year is on Saturday, Sept. 25. It coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, which is celebrated annually to promote outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and target shooting. New York provides anglers with six "Free Fishing Days" each year.
