The Greater Niagara Ballet Co. held its most successful "Breakfast with the Sugarplum Fairy" to date on Saturday. Families packed Antonio's Banquet & Conference Center in Niagara Falls. There, they enjoyed a meal, took pictures with GNBC dancers and bid on a bevy of basket auction items. Young children took part in a dance lesson and heard a holiday story.

The Lewiston Community Lions Club's fifth annual peace poster contest was recently held at the Stella Niagara Education Park. The event, chaired by Lion Marlene Craft and Lion's President Ron Craft, boated 58 entries from Stella Niagara, St. Peter's Roman Catholic and St. Peter's Lutheran schools. This year's theme for the contest was "Our World, Our Future."

Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School recently held its annual walk-a-thon, "Car Smash," after-walk picnic, and dodgeball games as a kick-off to Homecoming Week. Students in grades 7 through 12, along with faculty and staff, were able to enjoy a rally, followed by a seven-mile walk to raise funds for their school expenses.

Leadership Niagara kicked off a new program year for its eight-month youth leadership development program, LYNC, at Camp Kenan in Barker this weekend. Eighty student leaders from 12 Western New York high schools gathered together for two days of orientation, leadership skills and concepts, high ropes and camping.

It is back-to-school time, and if your student's summer has been filled with trips to the pool, hanging out with friends, television and video games, and other leisurely activities, now is the time to transition from summer to school mode.
"We always encourage families to relax and enjoy the less structured pace of summertime," said Wayne Sutcliffe of the Kenmore Huntington Learning Center. "However, there are several things you can do toward the end of summer break that are immensely helpful in getting students ready to return to the classroom."
