The K-Kids of West Street Elementary School culminated 2018 with the giving spirit. The K-Kids got the entire West Street student body involved by collecting food for Thanksgiving dinners for the area families in need.

In basketball terms, when Niagara-Wheatfield and Grand Island stepped onto the hardwood inside N-WHS Tuesday night, the teams were battling to improve their record in the Niagara Frontier League and gain points for the sectional playoffs. As important as a win was, though, Tuesday night was a lot more than basketball.
The Falcons and Vikings joined in the 2019 Hoops for Hope game, which was played in honor of a friend close to each school's heart - Julie Neville.

There's only a few days left in 2018, but looking back ... what a year it has been for Niagara-Wheatfield athletics. 2018 saw a majority of Falcons sports teams accomplish winning records, some of which included Niagara Frontier League and Section VI championships. Some teams and individuals were even fortunate enough to reach the state finals.

Saturday night, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons boys hockey team got revenge on its rival Williamsville North, 3-1. The victory comes just eight days after the Spartans defeated the Falcons, 5-3, at the Northtown Center.

Last year, Jordan Fox, a graduate of North Tonawanda High School, went above and beyond to set up a fundraiser and hockey game in the memory of Joey Brochey. Fox recently announced the game will make a return for year two from 3-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Hockey Outlet, 3385 Niagara Falls Blvd.

On the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 8, Niagara County Community College Public Safety received a radio transmission regarding a male down in one of the academic buildings on campus. Upon responding to the call, campus security officers Linda Haner-Mele and Ryan Newton discovered multiple people already on scene assisting with the unresponsive individual.

The Wolverines faced the defending New York State Class AA champions Liverpool High School. After a slow start in the first quarter, the Wolverines never looked back and throttled the defending champs, 71-42, at Onondaga Community College.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Lady Falcons have had success all season. From unbeaten in the regular season to Niagara Frontier League champions to Section VI champions - nothing could go wrong for the team.
On Sunday, at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, the girls looked to add to their season resume: New York state champions. With all good things, though, they come to an end.
The Lady Falcons' historic season struck midnight Sunday, as the team was defeated 3-2 by Wantagh.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons girls volleyball team etched another first into its season Saturday. The Niagara Frontier League and Section VI Class A champions will play for their first state title Sunday, after finishing second place in pool play of the New York State Class A girls volleyball championships.

The fall athletics season has been one to remember for the Niagara-Wheatfield girls volleyball team. The team won its first Section VI title and followed it with a win in the Far West Regional to clinch the first state tournament appearance in program history.
On Friday morning, the team was scheduled to hit the road for states in Glens Falls. Prior to them loading up the bus and taking off, though, the team was given an outstanding send off from their fellow classmates.

Last Saturday, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons girls volleyball team notched the program's first-ever Section VI title. On Friday night, at Webster-Thomas High School, the girls etched another first into its history.
The Falcons defeated the Irondequoit Eagles, 3-1, in the Far West Regional crossover matchup. The victory sends the girls to the New York State Tournament in Glens Falls.

Saturday, the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District welcomed 10 new members to its Falcon Wall of Fame, as well as five new inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony also unveiled the new home for the Athletic Hall of Fame along the windows of the cafeteria hallway.

It's been a crazy year for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons football team. From wins, losses, tiebreakers and a death close to the team, the team has seen a mixture of everything. On Thursday night, the team ended it's fall campaign with a fulfilling sense of closure.
The Falcons defeated Williamsville East in the Class A Chuck Funke Bowl finals, 22-8.

The Orleans/Niagara BOCES' Niagara Academy decided to raise money for a worthy cause. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness and money, the Student Council sponsored a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

It's been almost four years since Niagara-Wheatfield's golf team had a number other than zero in its loss column. On Tuesday, that number stayed put at zero, as the team won the Niagara Frontier League Tournament at Willowbrook Golf Course with a combined low score of 407.

Orleans/Niagara BOCES recently named its Employees of the Year for the 2018-19 school year. Employees are nominated by their peers and a committee decides who will be the recipient in each of the categories: Administrator, Clerical, Continuing Education, Custodial/Maintenance, Staff Specialist, Substitute, Teacher Aide and Teacher.

It's been a good two years for the Niagara-Wheatfield girls tennis team. In 2017, the team won its first Niagara Frontier League title since 2012. In 2018, the girls are back on top of the league - clinching their fourth NFL title in program history. It's also the first time in program history that the team has won the title in back-to-back years.

Friday night was something players on coach Russ Nixon's Falcons squad won't forget for a long time. In front of a packed crowd at Terry Harvey Field, including a loud and proud Black Hole student section, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons defeated Kenmore West for a homecoming victory, 28-21.

The team is coming off a stellar 14-2 regular season last year, but they were ousted in the semifinals of the Section VI Class AA tournament.

Niagara-Wheatfield girls tennis coach Kristin Janese always says year in and year out, "I want to improve off of last season's record." This year, that's tough to do, because her squad last season went 14-0. Nevertheless, she hopes for much of the same in 2018.
