'Tis the season for accidents and injuries that send thousands of people to the emergency department each year. The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) asked emergency physicians around the country what they typically see on a shift during the holidays, and here are some of the most common injuries to avoid in preparation for the festivities:

The Neighbors Foundation of Grand Island thanks the hundreds of individuals and organizations who contributed to our successful 2021 holiday distribution. Fifty-four of your neighbor families were helped with food baskets and, where appropriate, gift cards for their children. Eighty of our seniors were also helped in two senior apartment complexes.
New funding to help counties with COVID-19 response costs

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced she is making $65 million available to counties across New York to help with the costs associated with administering vaccines and boosters, and enforcing the mask-or-vaccine mandate for indoor public places that went into effect statewide last week.

On Wednesday evening, the Lewiston-Porter School District hosted a ribbon-cutting for its new LEVEL gallery. Located at the Center for the Arts at Lewiston-Porter High School, the new art space will operate under the direction of the art department. It will serve as the new home for the annual district art show, in addition to showcasing student artwork throughout the year and hosting community events.
Rich Family Foundation funds college dreams of thousands of high-school scholars with $1 million grant to Say Yes Buffalo

Rich Family Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Rich Products, has announced a $1 million grant to the Say Yes Buffalo Endowment Campaign. The gift, which will be distributed over the next five years, directly removes financial barriers to thousands of Buffalo public and charter high-school graduates who seek to earn a certificate, associate's or bachelor's degree. And it doubles the foundation's previous donation to Say Yes - a five-year grant of $500,000 awarded in 2016.

Christmas Walk weekend wrapped Sunday night with the inaugural Lewiston Christmas Lights Parade. Buffalo & North Tonawanda receiving $10 million as winners of fifth-round Downtown Revitalization Initiative

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Buffalo's Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood and the City of North Tonawanda will receive $10 million each in funding as the Western New York region winners of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. As part of DRI round 5, each of the state's 10 regional economic development regions are being awarded $20 million, to make for a total state commitment of $200 million in funding and investments to help communities boost their post COVID-19 economies by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods.
