Wheatfield Town Board to return to in-person meetings

Tuesday's Town of Wheatfield board meeting revealed the March 17 session will mark a return to in-person gatherings in the council chambers. The board has been meeting via Zoom since November.

Eligible New Yorkers can begin making appointments at state-FEMA vaccination sites including Buffalo

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced eligible New Yorkers in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany and Yonkers areas can begin making appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the state-FEMA community-based vaccination sites scheduled to open Wednesday, March 3, in the four cities. The four vaccination sites will operate between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily and each site has the capacity to administer 1,000 doses per day.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Tuesday announced a new cooperative agreement with the state comptroller's office; Niagara County; Orleans County; the cities of Lockport, Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda; and the Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corp. (NORLIC) to promote the redevelopment of dozens of potentially contaminated properties in Niagara and Orleans counties.

The "Am I Eligible" screening tool will be updated for individuals with comorbidities and underlying conditions at 8 a.m. Sunday, with new appointments released on a rolling basis over the next weeks. Catholic Health to acquire land in Lockport for new hospital campus

Catholic Health has contracted to purchase 104 acres of land in Lockport, which will be the site of the new Lockport Memorial Campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital. The multiple parcels, located off South Transit Road between Shimer and Ruhlmann roads, are currently under environmental and zoning review. Access to the hospital campus will be off Shimer Road near Transit.

As of noon, New York's health care distribution sites have received 1,554,450 first doses and already administered 91% (1,414,241) first-dose vaccinations and 76% of first and second doses. NF National Heritage Area digital archive funding uncovers mysteries in Falls

The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area (NFNHA) is uncovering mysteries in Niagara Falls by funding the Oakwood Cemetery Burial Permit Digital Archive Project and the Niagara Falls Public Library Local History Collection Project. It said Niagara Falls is known for its role in the Underground Railroad, but only a few precious artifacts have survived.
