USAN announces downtown Niagara Falls development strategy

USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN) on Thursday released its strategy for the redevelopment of several state-owned properties in downtown Niagara Falls acquired through Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Buffalo Billion initiative. The strategy recommends a range of intermediate steps and attainable site development guidelines for "reimagining a vibrant downtown, while building momentum for sustainable and dynamic long-term development."

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced COVID-19 restrictions are lifted immediately as 70% of New Yorkers aged 18 or older have received the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccination series. The state's health guidance and "New York Forward" industry-specific guidelines - including social gathering limits, capacity restrictions, social distancing, cleaning and disinfection, health screening, and contact information for tracing - are now optional for retail, food services, offices, gyms and fitness centers, amusement and family entertainment, hair salons, barber shops and personal care services, among other commercial settings.

Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced the dedication of a major project that removed an underutilized, two-mile stretch of the former Robert Moses Parkway - now called the Niagara Scenic Parkway - in the City of Niagara Falls. His team said this work created a stunning new area in Niagara Falls State Park called "Gorgeview," which provides unimpeded access to the Niagara Gorge and improved recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

The smell of lilacs in the backyard. Muddy knees and properly exhausted from playing outside, only to be rewarded with a freshly baked rhubarb dessert. This was spring at my grandparent's house in Niagara County. While my grandmother is now 97 years old, and she isn't baking like she used to, the younger generation is taking over in the kitchen.

Niagara County will officially open its county parks for the season on Saturday, May 29. The county operates five sites: Burmaster, Krull, Oppenheim, Royalton and West Canal. The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority and the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area (NFNHA) have selected Jalen Law, a local professional artist, to create a new mural inside the Portage Road Transportation Center. Based on his portfolio and prior engagement in the Niagara Falls community, Law was selected from a group of artists who responded to NFTA-Metro and NFNHA's call for artists at the end of 2020.
