In the spirit of providing comfort and hope to all affected by the recent mass-shooting tragedy in the Buffalo community, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the BPO Diversity Council announce "A Concert for Healing." The event will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, at the Johnnie B. Wiley Pavilion (1100 Jefferson Ave.).

The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area is seeking four artists to paint murals on Main Street and Depot Avenue in Niagara Falls. The "NF Murals Project" there is entering its fourth mural-making phase, following completion of 16 murals since 2019. Murals feature stories of freedom and champions of change in the Highland community of Niagara Falls.

Lewiston GardenFest, presented by Lewiston Garden Club, is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 18-19. The Center Street festival includes more than 60 vendors selling flowers, plants and handcrafted art and garden essentials, along with a garden walk, speakers, a container garden contest, and more activities throughout the weekend.

On the 78th anniversary of D-Day, Congressman Brian Higgins honored the late Pvt. Walter J. Kowalczyk, a distinguished World War II veteran. Service medals Kowalczyk earned were presented by Higgins to family members during a ceremony in Niagara Falls.

The program will feature a variety of local musical artists, caterers and dessert vendors for a unique experience all summer long. Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 held its annual Memorial Day celebration and ceremony Monday at the "Circle of Honor" monument in Academy Park in Lewiston. Cmdr. Gordon Spencer served as master of ceremonies. Veteran and New York State Sen. Robert Ortt delivered the keynote address. Boy Scout Troop 824 conducted a flag-folding ceremony, and Santino Hall led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Niagara's Splash World Water Park announced its operating hours for May and June, including Memorial Day weekend. Splash World attractions debut Saturday, May 27, and will be open from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sundays, with daily operations scheduled to begin Friday, June 24.

In New York, thousands of turtles are killed each year by unsuspecting drivers when turtles cross roads to find nesting areas.
