The Center for Women at Mount St. Mary's Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2014 at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, with the arrival of Charles James Arthur Farrell. Charles is the son of Ellen Gromoll and Kevin Farrell of Niagara Falls.

'NORAD Tracks Santa' program a record-breaking success

The North American Aerospace Defense Command's "NORAD Tracks Santa" program exceeded its own records in the number of calls, emails and social media followers this year. The program, which began after a misprinted ad in a local paper in 1955, has more than 1,200 volunteers and NORAD staff answering queries on the location of Santa Claus as he circles the globe delivering presents.

NYS awards $795,000 to Niagara Falls Memorial for groundbreaking outpatient mental health program

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has been awarded $795,000 in state funding for its new Wellness Connection Place, a groundbreaking coordinated care program for adult mental health patients.

The three-year award, announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is one of just 37 statewide and the only one designated for a Western New York hospital in the second phase of the competitive Vital Access/Safety Net Provider Program.

Memorial is in the process of renovating its outpatient adult mental health center to establish a one-stop, multi-service center called the Wellness Connection Center.
