Jonathan Shimon, an assistant professor in the University at Buffalo Department of Theatre and Dance, has been selected as the technical director by the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) for the U.S. entry in the 2019 Prague Quadrennial (PQ), the global showcase for the best in performance design, scenography and theater architecture.

Right before Christmas, Empire State Development announced Artpark & Company was the recipient of a $100,000 award from the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council. The money will go toward the creation of a master plan - a road map outlining what Artpark could and should be now and well into the future.

Prior to her sold-out concert at Shea's Buffalo Theatre on Saturday night, violinist Lindsey Stirling made a special visit to the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo. The award-winning EDM-pop-classic artist toured the facility, took pictures, hung out with Santa, had a giant cookie and learned about the charity, which provides a home for out-of-town guests fighting illness.

A AAA survey found an estimated 20 million Americans who purchased a real Christmas tree in the past three years did not properly secure it to their vehicle, risking serious vehicle damage and dangerous road debris. Vehicle damage that results from an improperly secured Christmas tree, such as scratched paint, torn door seals and distorted window frames, could cost up to $1,500 to repair. In addition to vehicle damage, Christmas trees that are not properly secured are a safety hazard for other drivers.

In April, Seneca Gaming Corp. announced plans for a $40 million multi-phase beautification and renovation project slated for Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, its flagship property in Niagara Falls. On Tuesday, officials celebrated phase one completion of this project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the hotel front desk area, as well as a performance by R&B/soul vocal group The Drifters.

After successfully landing in Academy Park, Santa met with children and families before boarding his special Deal Realty Float. In the spirit of "Giving Tuesday," the Food Bank of WNY announced the expansion of its direct delivery program and unveiled its new 26-foot refrigerated truck today in order to better serve its 41 Niagara County member agencies - and distribute more food to people in need throughout the community. With the launch of direct delivery in Niagara County, the Food Bank will now provide direct delivery services to all of its 317 agencies throughout its four-county service area.

Excitement is growing for an all-inclusive play area unlike anything else in Lewiston. Village officials met recently to review a near-final set of designs for Mason's Mission Playground at Marilyn Toohey Park. When completed - hopefully by next summer - the playground is expected to be almost 14,000 square feet.
