The iconic all-electric Maid of the Mist, which has been in continuous operation since 1885, sets sail on the 2024 season at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4. Moisture collects in these crevices, expanding and contracting due to freezing and thawing. Last year, New York led the nation in residential fire deaths, with 154 home fire fatalities statewide between January and December of 2023 according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Sadly, we've seen this trend continue with 24 residential fire deaths reported in New York since Jan. 1 - the most of any state this year. In fact, New York has been among the top four U.S. states for home fire deaths for more than a decade, totaling 1,358 home fire fatalities since 2014.
