Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has been awarded a $500,000, three-year grant from the New York State Office of Mental Health to operate a "Get Well/Stay Well" program to serve seniors residing in the Niagara community. The project will be operated in collaboration with The Dale Association, a well-known provider of mental health and elderly services in Niagara County.

At a press conference this morning at the First Niagara Center, Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula announced general manager Darcy Reiger and coach Ron Rolston have been fired. Former Sabres star Pat LaFontaine has been brought on as president of hockey operations. He, in turn, has brought back former coach Ted Nolan to serve as interim coach.

From that moment on, Sanger has been an unstoppable local force in spreading kindness through the giving of simple gifts. The Wound Center of Niagara celebrated its grand opening Thursday with a ribbon-cutting and open house at 620 10th St., Suite 700 - directly across the street from Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. The center was developed by Memorial and RestorixHealth, one of the nation's leaders in comprehensive wound care and wound management programs.

On May 5, Samantha Elliott, while working the overnight shift as a night auditor at the Renaissance Del Monte Lodge Hotel & Spa in Pittsford, responded to the room of a guest who had suffered an apparent heart attack. Upon her arrival, she took immediate and lifesaving actions by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, until she was relieved by responding personnel.

On Monday, under the watchful eye of site contractor Rocco DelGrosso and members of the Historical Association of Lewiston, the Tuscarora Heroes monument was installed on Center Street. Statues of three Native Americans, representing the Tuscarora nation, were planted in a park that pays tribute to "Tuscarora Heroes" - the brave men and women who rushed Lewiston residents out of the village during the 1813 British invasion.

More than 700 area students came to Old Fort Niagara Nov. 1 to participate in French Heritage Day. The students learned about life at the fort during the French period from re-enactors portraying the people from all nations who would have been in the area at this time.
