Kiwanis Club of Lewiston donates to Brickyard workers

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston has been without its weekly meeting space since the end of May - when a fire tore through the Brickyard Brewing Company's second floor, causing residual damage to the Kiwanians' home-away-from-home, the Brickyard Pub & BBQ.

Artpark & Company used its unusually (and pandemic-related) slower spring months to plot out a new mural project for the main parking lot on South Fourth Street in Lewiston. That grand canvas was recently completed and can be seen in these pictures from K&D Action Photo & Aerial Imaging.

Niagara University folklorist Edward Yong Jun Millar recently received an Archie Green Fellowship from the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress to document and preserve the stories, experiences, knowledge and traditions of workers involved with the Ransomville Speedway. Lewiston Lions donate to local food pantry, hosting PB&J drive

The Lewiston Lions understands local food pantries are under tremendous pressure, with increased demand and decreased donations. The club was able to make donations to several food pantry locations during quarantine: Care-N-Share (Inter Community Services), Word of Life Ministries and the Magdalene Project. In addition to a monetary donation, 40 face masks were also donated to the Word of Life Ministries for distribution to those who may need one.

The Como Deli on Center Street reopened to customers on Monday. The Village of Lewiston eatery had been closed since early spring, when "New York State on PAUSE" was enacted to slow the coronavirus spread.
Lewiston-Porter submits two options on reopening

Lewiston-Porter has submitted its reopening plan to the New York State Education Department (NYSED). The reopening plan provides for in-person instruction, remote learning, and a hybrid of the two approaches as required by NYSED. Kiwanis Club donates to Magdalene Project as part of service project

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston donated 50 backpacks (full of school supplies), and other personal items, to the Magdalene Project of Niagara Falls this past week. The donation is part of the Kiwanis New York District's First Lady's Project for 2019-20, which is to help homeless or less-fortunate students in local communities.
Historical Association of Lewiston nixes Tour of Homes, but adds fundraising opportunities

On Tuesday, June 30, Stella Niagara Education Park proudly held a graduation ceremony for the eighth grade Class of 2020. Following guidelines from New York state, SNEP's 335-foot parking lot was transformed into family carrels decorated with blue and gold balloons and labeled artistically by students armed with sidewalk chalk.

Old Fort Niagara reopening

Old Fort Niagara will reopen to visitors this Friday, July 3, following its 15-week closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Daily hours of operation have been shortened slightly, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow for extra cleaning before and after hours. Hourly musket and living-history demonstrations and seasonal food service will resume following proper health and social-distancing guidelines.
