The St. Francis Guild and board of associates of Mount St. Mary's Hospital recently coordinated an Easter egg hunt on the hospital campus for Mount St. Mary's associates and their families. The event included a hunt for eggs, visit from the Easter Bunny, petting zoo and prizes for all attendees.

After an unexpected two-year hiatus, the Northwest Jazz Festival returns to historic Lewiston Aug. 26-27. The event will highlight local, international and North American jazz artists including Sally Terrell, John di Martino, Stacey Kent, Corrine Mammana, Allison Au, Emmet Cohen and Joey DeFrancesco.

The "Harry Potter Film Concert Series" returns to the Artpark Mainstage Theater with "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert," the third film in the "Harry Potter" series. On July 9, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is performing this magical score live while the entire film plays in high-definition on a 40-foot screen.

The New York Power Authority on Friday announced the reopening of its Power Vista visitors center in Lewiston at 1 p.m. Monday, March 7. Thereafter, the admission-free visitors center, located at 5777 Lewiston Road, will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except some holidays.

They collect a punch card at designated gold star balloon businesses; stop into any of the participating sites along Center Street, which will be marked with star balloons (red - "Sip" and "Shop"; blue - "Sip" and "Eat"); take a look around to see what's inside, and get the punch card punched. No purchase is necessary - but purchases are always appreciated.

Lewiston lost one of its strongest champions when Bruce Sutherland passed Dec. 27. Three days after the former deputy mayor's death, Tom Deal of Deal Realty suggested a portion of South Sixth be renamed "Sutherland Street." Bruce would often hold court from his house, and he and his wife, Jackie, were popular among neighbors.

Most of the repair work at the Frontier House in the past 10 years has been performed behind the scenes, revealed only through second-hand accounts. But in recent weeks, exterior work has been readily evident and on display for all to see, with massive lifts, scaffolding and tarps surrounding the 198-year-old building.

Village of Lewiston Board members were pleased with the Department of Public Works' response to the nearly 2 feet of snow that accumulated from Sunday night into Monday morning. They said Superintendent Larry Wills and his team wasted no time in clearing roads and sidewalks, enabling residents to travel, and restaurants and businesses to open.

Situated in the heart of the village at the southwest corner of South Fifth and Plain streets, the house consists of two wings. The first wing, or north section (along Plain), is a large rectangular wing with a center chimney built in 1817 by David Smith. He was the minister for the first Religious Society in Lewiston, first minister of the Presbyterian Church, and also a founder for the first Episcopal congregation.

Lewiston Town Hall employees, under the direction of Town Clerk Donna Garfinkel, along with Lily and Dominic Wager from St. Peter's R.C. Church religious education, collected food throughout November and December to benefit local families and Care-N-Share Food Pantry located in Ransomville.
