Old Fort Niagara's re-enactment season begins with 'Patriots Day Weekend'

The Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, launched the American Revolution. This history will be retold and re-enacted on April 21 and 22 at Old Fort Niagara.
Lewiston: Memorial Day committee meets, sponsors re-up

Lewiston's Memorial Day Remembrance Committee met Thursday at the Veterans Memorial in Academy Park, the site of the upcoming Memorial Day Ceremony. Members brought the honors banner from the 2017 event and said they were very pleased to note last year's great sponsors have all signed up again to support this community event again in 2018.

Expanded: Village of Lewiston Board approves Hibbard's renovation, denies Art Council request

The second phase of expansion at Hibbard's Original Frozen Custard was approved Monday by the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees. The Hibbard family was granted a special use permit for a 24-foot-by-13-foot concrete pad and customer queuing area with overhanging canopy. This waiting spot will be located directly behind newly enlarged serving windows, which were previously approved.

An event that started in the 1970s was reimagined Saturday as the women of St. Peter R.C. School presented a gala benefit. Once held in the student cafeteria, this year's rendition took place at the new wing of the Niagara Falls Country Club. There, parents, teachers, faculty and members of Rosary Altar Guild Society joined forces to stage a ladies luncheon, mother-daughter fashion show and grand gift and basket raffle, all to raise funds for the Lewiston elementary school.

"With the renovation, the capital improvement project that happened with the school, the art rooms, the whole fine arts wing got significant renovations, and this beautiful atrium was added on," said art teacher Brett Coppins, Class of 1992. Improved safety at Old Fort Niagara

Representatives from the Old Fort Niagara Association, Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department, New York State Assembly, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the Niagara County Legislature dedicated a new fire trailer at Old Fort Niagara on Thursday. Officials gathered in the parking lot near the fort's Visitor Center to announce the completion of the project, which has been underway for several years.
