Bonnie Hedden Designs won Best in Show on Saturday at the 2022 Lewiston Art Festival. Hedden, a handcrafted-jewelry artist from Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, also took first place in the Artistic Craft I: Jewelry category for her "Aqua Shag" necklace.

Artpark & Company presents the return of Plasticiens Volants from Toulouse, France, for the North American premiere of "Leonardo." The larger-than-life show will celebrate one of the greatest inventors of all time: Leonardo da Vinci. Guests will witness oversized, helium-filled, hand-painted inflatables depicting Leonardo's ideas, inventions and visions floating weightlessly above the audience and moving through the skies as the sun sets across the Niagara escarpment.

Modern Disposal Services recently teamed up Lt. James Lucas, Sheriff Michael Filicetti and the Niagara County underwater recovery team to support a new underwater metal detector unit for their division. The new device has advanced technology to make it easier for the underwater team to locate a variety of articles when needed in certain situations and difficult conditions.

Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal on Tuesday announced a section of Porter Center Road in the Town of Lewiston will be closed to all motorists, except local traffic, beginning Monday, Aug. 8. Electronic message boards are already in place warning motorists of the pending closure.

The New York Power Authority board of trustees on Tuesday approved the award of a competitively bid contract, valued up to $37,984,000, to REEL COH Inc. of Boisbriand, Canada, to fabricate, deliver and install a new gantry crane with a lifting capacity of 680 tons for the Power Authority's Niagara Power Project in Lewiston.

Popular with both young and young-at-heart, the event has evolved from an art walk of miniature fairy houses installed by local and professional artists to an international, interdisciplinary and immersive performing arts festival with European street theater groups, modern dance, music and intricately costumed fairy performers.

The Village of Lewiston celebrated its new inclusive playground Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Marilyn Toohey Park behind the Red Brick Municipal Building. Since the site opened earlier this summer, it has been a popular location for families with small children. The splash pad has been particularly busy.

In the Niagara Falls Power Vista Visitors Center, robots maneuvered around obstacles, moved up and down ramps, threw balls through miniature basketball hoops, and scooped up orange disks that they then pushed across a grid. The demonstrations were part of the culminating event at Niagara University's Robotics Camp, which took place June 27-30.

Lewiston's bicentennial celebration kicked off Friday with the ringing of bells at the Red Brick Municipal Building and village churches. Community members joined local elected leaders and event organizers, clapping and cheering outside the former schoolhouse. Trustee Nick Conde tolled the bell for two minutes, signifying the municipality's first 200 years.
