Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce celebrates community contributors

The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce celebrated the achievements of its members, last Thursday, at the returning gala awards dinner at the Niagara Falls Country Club. The evening was full of music, fellowship and special recognition of members Everything Youngstown, Cheri Amour, Fittante Architecture, The Youngstown Lions Club, The Rose Hanger, Be OK Studio, The Historical Association of Lewiston and Margy Toohey.
New York Power Authority fishing piers close for season

The New York Power Authority announced fishing facilities, including the fishing pier at the base of the Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, will close for the season at dusk today, Tuesday, Nov. 15. The fishing pier located near the Upper Mountain Fire Co. at the Lewiston Reservoir and at the water intakes along the upper Niagara River will also close for the season.

Items that can be viewed and paid include water and utilities, taxes, building permits, licenses, recreation department events and even parking tickets.

LCA embarks upon 'Spirit of Victory' sculpture restoration

The "Spirit of Victory", a sculpture sited at Joseph Davis State Park, is in need of repair. The statue, by artist Tom Mullany, was originally part of a larger installation titled "Drums Along the Niagara," created in 1989 when the artist was in-residence at Artpark.

Sandy Dugan gets ride of a lifetime

As the blueberry-colored jet boat circled around the Devil's Hole gorge class five rapids, Sandy Dugan began to cry what she called "tears of joy." Strapped in a red lifejacket, gripping the handlebar above her seat cushion, Dugan looked out on the Niagara River from this vantage point for the first time in her 84 years. Taking it all in as the vessel gently rocked up and down, she proclaimed, "This is every bit as exciting as Alaska." As the jet boat picked up steam and ascended its highest crest, Dugan exclaimed, "I'm so glad we did that. It was wonderful!"
