Four Wheatfield seniors sign to play in college

On Wednesday, four Niagara-Wheatfield student athletes signed to continue their athletic careers in college.

Senior Warren McDougald from Niagara-Wheatfield High School was awarded The Destroyer Award, Monday night at the annual Ilio DiPaolo Scholarship Award dinner in Blasdell. The award is named after the late professional wrestler Dick Beyer, who passed away in March.
Pappas attends ribbon-cutting for new boat launch kiosk

Wednesday, North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas joined North Tonawanda Director of Parks and Recreation Alex Domaradzki, City Engineer Dale Marshall, as well as additional city officials, for a ribbon cutting ceremony in dedication of the new boat launch kiosk at Gratwick Riverside Park.
Wheatfield Town Board issues proclamation to Muscatello

There's a lot of familiar faces around the Town of Wheatfield that people know of and see from time to time. One of those faces is Richard Muscatello.  Monday night, at the Town of Wheatfield Town Board meeting, Supervisor Don MacSwan issued a proclamation to Muscatello for all his years of service to the municipality. 
Holy Ghost Lutheran hosting Bergholz 5K

Runners and walkers alike; there is an event for you coming to the Town of Wheatfield in June.  Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and School, 6630 Luther St., will host the Bergholz 5K at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. The event is seeking to promote health and wellness in the town, as well as facilities and operations at Holy Ghost. 
Peltier's no hitter guides Falcons to strong regular season finish

After heavy rains suspended the contest in the first inning last Wednesday, the two teams continued the battle on Saturday, with N-W coming out as the victors, 9-0.  Despite a stellar offensive showing from the Falcons, it was all about Tommy Peltier on the mound. The senior hurled a no hitter while striking out 13 Lions.
Falcons get revenge win on senior day

The last time the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons softball team played Kenmore West, the team witness the Blue Devils celebrate on their own field after an impressive comeback victory. Friday night, the Falcons were seeking revenge and got it, as N-W defeated Ken-West, 8-4.
NTHS Multi-Class Scholarship awards/reunion

One extra inning thriller just wasn't enough for the Niagara-Wheatfield and Lewiston-Porter softball teams. Saturday afternoon, on the turf of Kenmore West High School, the two Niagara Frontier League squads dueled in a second extra inning affair, with the Falcons defeating the Lancers, 6-3, in eight innings.

NCCC wraps up presidential candidate public forums

This past week, Niagara County Community College hosted three public forums to introduce its presidential candidates. The forums also gave attendees the chance to ask the candidates questions they may have regarding the college. Following the remarks, attendees filled out a survey, which judged several categories of the presentation.

North Tonawanda: Pappas announces 'Tree City USA' designation

City of North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas recently announced the Arbor Day Foundation has once again named the City of North Tonawanda "2018 Tree City USA" in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters. 
'Music Mania Mondays' makes 2019 return

Town of Wheatfield hosts Easter party

Last Saturday, the Town of Wheatfield Recreation Department hosted its annual Easter party at the Youth Center, 2795 Church Road. Children and families alike were treated to games, crafts, refreshments and snacks, a few hours out of the house and, of course, visits with the Easter Bunny.

An overlooked position in baseball sometimes is that of the catcher. Every game, the catcher is seeing a new style of pitcher, calling pitches from start to finish, helping guide the defense, throw base stealers out - oh, and they get to hit, too. As the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons baseball team comes into a 2019 season with high expectations, it is fortunate enough to have a backstop who has done all of that for quite some time: Ethan Guthrie.

Spring sports in Western New York are played in some of the most brutal weather conditions. Tuesday, the offenses looked past the bitter cold, as the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons defeated the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks in eight innings, 12-7.
Falcons baseball expecting big season

Last spring, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons baseball team strolled into the Section VI Class AA final winners of nine consecutive games before their fall versus Williamsville North, 3-2.  During the streak, the bats and pitching arms of the Falcons were as hot as could be.  For the 2019 season, the team will return a bulk of the talent that led them on the streak.

DEC presents Niagara Sanitation Landfill results

Residents of North Tonawanda and Wheatfield showed up in full force Saturday at the Wheatfield Community Center. On hand was the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to present the results of the comprehensive environmental investigation for the Niagara Sanitation Landfill.
Falcons softball bringing talent, experience to table in '19

Last spring, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons softball team was close to winning its first Section VI title since 2011. The team fell short versus Lancaster but, for the 2019 spring season, the Falcons return a majority of the 2018 roster that guided the team to the finals.
