Saturday, the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District welcomed 10 new members to its Falcon Wall of Fame, as well as five new inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony also unveiled the new home for the Athletic Hall of Fame along the windows of the cafeteria hallway.

The St. Martin Lutheran Church will celebrate its 175th anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 11. A service will begin at the church, 322 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, and will be followed by a catered banquet at Adams Fire Hall, 7113 Nash Road, at 12:30 p.m. Adult admission is $20; children 6-18 years of age: $10; and children under 5 years enter free.

Last week, North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas, accompanied by his wife Linda, was joined by members of the Common Council, city officials, Children's Memorial committee members, as well as State Sen. Rob Ortt and a message from State Assemblyman Robin Schimminger in their participation in a dedication ceremony for the Children's Memorial Garden, which took place at Brauer Park, adjacent to City Hall at 216 Payne Ave.

The Niagara-Wheatfield girls volleyball team has dominated its competition this season. On Friday night, the team continued the trend with a 3-0 victory over Sweet Home in the Section VI Class A quarterfinals.

It's been a crazy year for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons football team. From wins, losses, tiebreakers and a death close to the team, the team has seen a mixture of everything. On Thursday night, the team ended it's fall campaign with a fulfilling sense of closure.
The Falcons defeated Williamsville East in the Class A Chuck Funke Bowl finals, 22-8.

The Orleans/Niagara BOCES' Niagara Academy decided to raise money for a worthy cause. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness and money, the Student Council sponsored a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

It's been almost four years since Niagara-Wheatfield's golf team had a number other than zero in its loss column. On Tuesday, that number stayed put at zero, as the team won the Niagara Frontier League Tournament at Willowbrook Golf Course with a combined low score of 407.

Friday night was something players on coach Russ Nixon's Falcons squad won't forget for a long time. In front of a packed crowd at Terry Harvey Field, including a loud and proud Black Hole student section, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons defeated Kenmore West for a homecoming victory, 28-21.

The teams have reached homecoming week, which includes themed days, the always competitive pindodge game, powder puff football and, of course, the Friday night lights football game. Last season, the Niagara-Wheatfield boys soccer team won four games and lost two, but tied seven times. Every game seemed to wind up in a tie. In 2018, ties are turning into victories for the Falcons.
