Sunflowers, corn mazes, food trucks, and picnicking under apple trees. Sunflowers of Sanborn had all these things on Saturday during its Labor Day weekend event.

Another example was present Thursday night, as senior Matt Lysiak led the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons football team to a 26-6 victory over the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks.

Carl Dixon, born and raised in Canada answered an ad for a band called Coney Hatch in 1979. He went on to tour around the world, rocked long hair and a killer voice, wrote hits like "Devil's Deck," "Hey Operator" and became the lead singer for the rock legend The Guess Who in 1997.

Summer means a lot of things to a lot of different people, but traditionally it has always been a season to get out of the house and attend local events with the rest of the community. Nobody knows this more than right here in Niagara County, where municipalities often end up competing with one another to draw in curious visitors and longtime residents alike for their own take of summer fun.

Town of Lewiston Supervisor Steve Broderick was given a citation from the Sanborn Area Historical Society at the Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum Festival for providing the society help financing a feasibility study; purchasing the farm in 2002; continuing to support it over the years, including this year; completing the museum's parking lot and connecting the venue to the town sewers, allowing the Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum to be open all year for the first time.
Edward Town Middle School student wins national pageant

Alyssa Strangio, 11, is a sixth-grader at Edward Town Middle School and a Wheatfield resident. Alyssa's first pageant was when she was 5 years old, where she won the Peach Blossom in 2014 at the Lewiston Kiwanis Peach Festival.

Although water levels have been high around Western New York - leading to the cancellation of several water-related happenings - locals can look forward to a community favorite off the shores of the Niagara River. Coming Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4, Gratwick Riverside Park in North Tonawanda will host the 14th Thunder on the Niagara boat racing event.

NCCC 1 of 8 in New York to receive state library award

The Henrietta G. Lewis Library on the campus of Niagara County Community College serves as a repository for Niagara County regional history, and thanks to a conservation/preservation discretionary grant from the New York State Library, artifacts from this collection will be better preserved with improved access.  The $8,482 grant was one of eight of this nature awarded across the state.

Recently, Wheatfield Family Dentistry held an open house fundraiser for Make-A-Wish of Western New York. The firm offered free sandwiches and ice cream from an Anderson's food truck. Other events included free pony rides from Blaze's Pony Express and a jumbo inflatable slide donated by Entercom Communications from Pig Belly Entertainment. 
2019 KanJam World Championship tournament coming to NT

Those who have driven down River Road of late may have seen a massive complex being constructed across from Recreational Warehouse. That massive complex - 600 River Road Apartments - was welcomed to the North Tonawanda community Tuesday at a ribbon-cutting held at the facility.
