For some athletes, football is a way of life. Some players relish the opportunity of being between the lines, from goal post to goal post. For Niagara-Wheatfield High School senior quarterback Jordan Parks, his true love is the game of football. This past winter, though, that love was almost taken from him.

Starpoint 11th grader, Sara Danwin's fascination for dragons has proven to be very lucrative for her. Using an oven bake polymer clay called Sculpey, the 15-year-old artist has been sculpting the mythical creatures and selling them at local craft fairs. At this year's annual Starpoint Art and Craft Fair alone, she made over $500.

This past spring, the Niagara-Wheatfield High School community endured a heartbreaking loss. Michael Ziegler - son, student, athlete and friend -- tragically passed away in March. To honor Ziegler, a member of the football, wrestling and lacrosse teams, a scholarships were put in place by donations from the Ziegler family and friends, as well as the Niagara-Wheatfield Sports Alliance, to carry on Ziegler's passion for athletics.

Wheatfield grad Vendetti serving on one of first U.S. Navy stealth ships

A class of 1998 Niagara-Wheatfield High School graduate and Niagara Falls, New York, native is serving as part of the Pre-Commissioning Unit for the future Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116). Chief Petty Officer David Vendetti is a fire controlman assigned to DDG 116 in Bath, Maine. As a fire controlman, Vendetti is responsible for training and the professional development of junior sailors.
