Bank of America awards Westminster Economic Development Initiative $250,000 grant to support capital campaign

The Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI) received a $250,000 grant from Bank of America to advance its $11.5 million capital campaign to build a new West Side Bazaar at 1432 Niagara St., Buffalo. A press release noted, "This funding will help remove barriers for underserved entrepreneurs, including refugees and immigrants, to start family-sustaining small businesses."
Application process open for Community Foundation's 21st Century Fund $100,000 grant

The 21st Century Fund, a fund and giving circle of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations for its 2023-24 grant cycle through 4 p.m. Dec. 4. Additionally, prospective applicants are invited to attend a virtual applicant briefing from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 5. Congressman Brian Higgins announced the Western New York Council on Occupational Safety and Health (WNYCOSH) was awarded a federal grant totaling $179,912. The award was provided through the U.S. Department of Labor's Susan Harwood Training Grant program dedicated to making workers aware of their rights and supporting efforts to recognize and prevent workplace safety and health hazards.

Tourism spending reaches $969 million in Niagara County for 2022

Earlier this month, the New York state-commissioned Tourism Economics research study for 2022 was released, detailing the economic impact of tourism across the state. The study revealed that the total traveler spend in Niagara County in 2022 reached $969 million, which is an increase of 16.5% relative to 2021.
