The trustees of the New York Power Authority on Tuesday approved a new, five-year contract agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), a labor union representing more than 570 electricians, line persons, and other skilled craft employees at NYPA, the nation's largest state public power entity providing nearly a quarter of New York's electricity.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 8.8% in November compared to the same month in 2021, according to an analysis released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.72 billion, up $139 million compared to the same time last year.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection has released tips to inform and empower New York consumers purchasing gift cards and gift certificates this holiday season. Any gift cards or gift certificates purchased in New York state on or after Dec. 10, 2022, will remain valid for a minimum of nine years from the date of purchase. And, when the remaining value of a gift card or gift certificate is less than $5, the recipient can opt to receive cash for the balance.

Empire State Development announced U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) Deputy Assistant Secretary and Chief Operating Officer Dennis Alvord visited Buffalo to kick off the projects awarded under the "Build Back Better Regional Challenge." The EDA team met with the Western New York Manufacturing Coalition and held a roundtable discussion before concluding the visit with a tour of Buffalo Manufacturing Works and the Northland Corridor.

Niagara University announced it has partnered with Montante Solar to develop and maintain a solar array on its Lewiston campus. The array, which is expected to generate four megawatts at peak solar capacity, is targeted to be operational in October 2023 - and represents another major step forward in the university's commitment to environmental stewardship.

They relaxed municipal laws pertaining to A-frame posts at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, and have continued to permit the markers - particularly noting the need to direct people to slightly off-Center Street retailers Sgt. When Healing Earth CBD opened in the summer of 2021, public response "was very, very positive," co-owner Brandon Rush said. "You know, obviously there's a huge issue with education. A lot of people come in, and they don't know the difference between marijuana and hemp. They don't know what the difference between CBD and what THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is, or what it does to the body. So, we spend a lot of time educating customers. But I think, overall, it's been a very positive customer experience. I mean, we've done very well; we're obviously still in business."
