Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday proposed legislation to waive taxes on grants from the $800 million COVID-19 Pandemic Small Business Recovery Grant program. Applications for the program will be accepted starting June 10 for small and micro businesses and small for-profit independent arts and cultural organizations to help them recover from the economic impact of the pandemic.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the New York Power Authority's board of trustees approved three low-cost hydropower allocations that will create 102 jobs across Western New York and spur $145 million in private capital investments. The approved awards of 3,580 kilowatts of hydropower from the Power Authority's Niagara Power Project in Lewiston are to Americold Real Estate in Chautauqua County, SGS Recovery in Niagara County and Sumitomo Rubber USA in Erie County.

Three Catholic Health hospitals in Erie and Niagara counties have been recognized by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York for high-quality maternity care as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Sisters of Charity Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston were named Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) for Maternity Care. The three hospitals delivered more than 5,700 babies in 2019.

Health care organization Evergreen Health debuted Cabenuva (Cabotegravir and Rilpivirine), an HIV-1 treatment regimen approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in January and trialed by Evergreen's own physician, Dr. Alyssa Shon. The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) recently released new data showcasing the ongoing devastating impact of COVID-19 on hotel industry employment, including projected hotel job loss through the end of 2021. Without targeted relief from Congress, nationwide, hotels are expected to end 2021 down 500,000 jobs. Hotels are the only major hospitality and leisure segment yet to receive direct aid.

Andrew Cuomo announced the New York State Police will conduct "Operation Hardhat" enforcement activities all week in support of National Work Zone Awareness Week, which takes place from April 26-30. Tops Friendly Market and Convergent Energy + Power have partnered to deliver more renewable energy to upstate New Yorkers in the form of community solar paired with battery storage. As a result of this partnership, more than 75 Tops stores will be powered by the solar farms, which will reduce the stores' carbon footprint. The solar-plus-storage projects developed by Convergent provide Tops and upstate New Yorkers access to solar energy whether or not the sun is shining and reduce the state's reliance on power plants during peak demand hours.
