In August, New York state released a tourism economics research study for 2021, detailing the economic impact of tourism across the state. The study revealed the total traveler spend in Niagara County in 2021 reached $831 million, which is an increase of 9.3% relative to 2019. Traveler spend was heavily impacted in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but tourism spending surpassed prepandemic levels in 2021.

Empire State Development announced Linde, a global industrial gases and engineering company, is expanding the scope of its North American PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolyzer project in Niagara Falls, which will now include a 35 MW electrolyzer plant. The new expanded project replaces a previously announced $17 million proposal.

Octapharma Plasma Inc., a plasma collection company "for the development of life-saving pharmaceutical therapies," opened its latest donation center in Amherst, at Sheridan Center shopping mall (3386 Sheridan Drive). With its opening, Octapharma Plasma now operates donation centers in 36 states.

Empire State Development recently announced the expansion of Top Seedz, an artisan cracker manufacturer, to a larger production facility at 101 Oak St., in downtown Buffalo. Presently working out of a 6,500-square-foot facility in Cheektowaga, Top Seedz will relocate to the new, 34,379-square-foot location, where it will produce and ship its crackers. The company plans to retain 28 existing jobs and hire an additional 20 to support its growth.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced Rosina Food Products Inc. has completed a $73.2 million expansion, adding a facility in West Seneca. The new, multimillion-dollar plant will produce a variety of meat products for the fast-growing food manufacturer, and will create 40 new jobs and retain 500 jobs.

Fraudsters are impersonating financial institutions claiming that a customer's account is compromised "due to unusual activity," but the message is an attempt to deceive the recipient into sharing personal information.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the launch of a statewide hotline, 1-800-HARASS-3 (1-800-427-2773), for issues of workplace sexual harassment. The confidential hotline will be operated by the New York State Division of Human Rights and will connect workers who have faced sexual harassment with experienced pro-bono attorneys to advise them.
