Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in New York, northern Pennsylvania and Vermont, announced the launch of its 2022 free gas and grocery campaign. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced the winners of the eighth annual 43North Finals, New York state's $5 million startup competition held in Buffalo, in which five companies were each awarded a $1 million investment. In addition to the financial investments, the five winners will relocate their companies to Buffalo and work out of the 43North incubator in the city's tallest skyscraper, Seneca One.

New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) Commissioner Roberta Reardon on Friday issued an order accepting the recommendation of the Farm Laborers Wage Board to lower the current 60-hour threshold for overtime pay to 40 hours per week by Jan. 1, 2032, allowing 10 years to phase in the new threshold.

The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) announced next steps in the state's $15 minimum hourly wage phase-in. Commissioner Roberta Reardon issued an order calling for the minimum wage rate in counties outside of New York City, Long Island and Westchester to rise by $1 per hour, from $13.20 to $14.20, following a statutorily required economic analysis conducted by the New York State Division of the Budget (DOB).

Empire State Development and the New York Power Authority announced transparent ceramic manufacturer Surmet Corp. has expanded its 75,000-square-foot facility at 699 Hertel Ave., Buffalo, by more than 4,000 square-feet to house new ceramics processing equipment. Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced construction is underway on a $21 million renovation project at Kleinhans Music Hall, a world-class arts and culture destination located in Buffalo. The project will upgrade and refurbish the National Historic Landmark and prevent further deterioration. Hochul recently announced $8 million in fiscal year 2023 budget funding for the project, in addition to up to $1 million in grants from Empire State Development.

DiNapoli: Local sales tax collections in August increase by nearly 13% over last year

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 12.6% statewide in August compared to the same month in 2021, according to a recent analysis released by Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Statewide local collections totaled $1.7 billion, up nearly $192 million from the same time last year.
