Cuomo reminds New Yorkers 'pink tax' ban goes into effect

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that, starting today, new reforms go into effect prohibiting businesses from charging a "pink tax," otherwise known as the practice of charging different prices for "substantially similar" consumer goods or services that are marketed to different genders.

DiNapoli: Medicaid audits find more than $700 million in 'unnecessary costs and overpayments'

Survey: 74% of hotels will lay off more employees without further aid

As devastated industries wait for Congress to pass another round of COVID-19 recovery legislation, a new survey of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) members shows that the hotel industry remains on the brink of collapse because of the pandemic. Results show 68% of hotels have less than half of their typical, precrisis staff working full time, and without further governmental assistance, 74% of respondents said they would be forced to lay off additional employees.

DiNapoli: Local sales tax collections down 7.8% in August

Local government sales tax revenue declined by 7.8% in August compared to the same period last year, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. August's sales tax collections totaled $1.3 billion for counties and cities, or $111 million less than in August 2019.
DEC: Enforcement of New York's plastic bag ban to start Oct. 19

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced DEC will begin enforcement of the state's ban on single-use plastic carryout bags on Oct. 19. The plastic bag ban, which went into effect on March 1, was not enforced per an agreement between the parties in a lawsuit brought by Poly-Pak Industries Inc., et al, in New York State Supreme Court.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Li-Cycle Inc., a North America based lithium-ion battery resource recovery company, will further grow its operations in New York. The company will invest over $175 million in a lithium-ion battery recycling "hub" on a 15.4-acre parcel of land at Eastman Business Park (EBP). This is in addition to its Li-Cycle's first U.S. "spoke" operation already located at the park in Monroe County.
