Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.14, down 12 cents from one week ago. One year ago, the price was $3.31. The New York state average is $3.49, down 10 cents since last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.51.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $24.3 million has been awarded to support 56 municipalities and not-for-profit organizations for park improvements, heritage area enhancements and historic preservation projects through round XII of the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative. The grants from the Environmental Protection Fund are administered by the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

New York Power Authority announces 5-year contract agreement with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

The trustees of the New York Power Authority on Tuesday approved a new, five-year contract agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), a labor union representing more than 570 electricians, line persons, and other skilled craft employees at NYPA, the nation's largest state public power entity providing nearly a quarter of New York's electricity.

DiNapoli: Local sales tax collections grow by nearly 9% in November

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 8.8% in November compared to the same month in 2021, according to an analysis released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.72 billion, up $139 million compared to the same time last year.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection has released tips to inform and empower New York consumers purchasing gift cards and gift certificates this holiday season. Any gift cards or gift certificates purchased in New York state on or after Dec. 10, 2022, will remain valid for a minimum of nine years from the date of purchase. And, when the remaining value of a gift card or gift certificate is less than $5, the recipient can opt to receive cash for the balance.
