Artpark has new update on summer concerts & events

As the summer draws nearer, I am sure you are wondering about the status of Artpark's season and I would like to share some updates with you.
Artpark announces opportunities for young performers & professional artists

During this period of time when the impact of COVID-19 on future public events is still uncertain, Artpark & Company is approaching its nonprofit mission of creating, nurturing and presenting the arts for the community with renewed focus and energy. New initiatives announced for the 2020 season offer learning and performance opportunities for young local singers/musicians, plus a paid contract for a lead artist on a special collaborative large-scale mural project with the "Artpark Bridges" program.
Summer events in limbo, as pandemic has no end date

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday said there's no immediate end date to social distancing or brick and mortar restrictions put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, though he said there is likely a way to have businesses reopen as people are still taking precautionary measures, he acknowledged the coronavirus would still pose a public danger into the summer months.

Wilco and Sleater-Kinney announced their "It's Time" summer 2020 co-headlining tour. After their respective North American and European runs in support of last year's "Ode To Joy" (out now on dBpm Records), Wilco will return stateside, closing out each night of their co-headlining tour with Sleater-Kinney, who just closed out their "The Center Won't Hold" Tour.

Music legends Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the Artpark Amphitheater at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 18, for a special concert event presented by Artpark. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 13.
Vampire Weekend releases 'Father of the Bride' bonus tracks, as 2020 live shows begin

Vampire Weekend has released three songs in accompaniment to their Grammy Award-winning album "Father of the Bride." These bonus tracks were originally released exclusively on the physical Japanese CD and were not available digitally until now.

Tedeschi Trucks Band's "Wheels of Soul Tour" returns to the Artpark Amphitheater on July 14, 2020, as part of the "Tuesdays in the Park presented by M&T Bank" series. Tedeschi Trucks Band will be joined by eight-piece soul band St. Paul and the Broken Bones plus singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gabe Dixon. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

For Lewiston concertgoers, Tuesday night was, well, a "Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy," as Bad Company with Paul Rodgers headlined a concert at Artpark. The show was one of only two-dozen live dates for the band in 2019.

Two summers ago, the French street theater group Plasticiens Volants wowed people when it debuted "Big Bang" Lewiston. The troupe told a story of creation through a dazzling mix of floating inflatables, videos, lights and music. Its colorful creations filled the night sky, and were manned by performers weaving in and out of the crowd.

Fearing thunderstorms would postpone (or worse, cancel) Tuesday's outdoor concert with Chris Isaak, Artpark & Company officials moved the show into the Mainstage Theater. It was a smart move, as the colors of the concert hall matched perfectly with the singer's colorful production - not to mention his outfit and the duds of his traveling troubadours.
'Weird Al,' Artpark party like it's 1699

Artpark's "Tuesdays in the Park" concert this week was definitely weird. Not weird as in strange, but weird as in Al Yankovic. He brought his "Strings Attached" tour to Lewiston - complete with a top-notch backing band, a 41-piece orchestra, numerous video packages, and, of course, unique costume changes.

A smaller but peppier Artpark crowd was treated to the most fun concert of the 2019 "Tuesdays in the Park" concert series this week. Sugar Ray, Better Than Ezra and Emerson Hart of Tonic had people on their feet, singing and dancing along to some of the 1990's biggest hits.

Artpark & Company announces selection of master plan design team

The Artpark & Company board of directors has confirmed selection of the lead design team for its master plan: Internationally recognized architecture and design firm SO - IL; landscape architects West 8; and theater, acoustics and digital design consultancy Charcoalblue. They are tasked with the development of a strategy to revitalize the Artpark grounds, while improving connectivity, facilities and programs.
