Independent Living of Niagara County will hold its fifth annual Bass Fishing Derby, with a celebratory barbecue following, on Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Lower Niagara River, at the Fin, Feather and Fur Conservation Club in Lewiston.

Niagara Pythons All Stars Cheerleading's second annual summer clinic will be held for youth ages 6-11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 13 and 14, and for ages 12-18 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 20 and 21.

The inaugural Battle at the Border is officially in the books, as Ransomville Speedway completed the schedule highlight last Friday night. A total of 30 358 Modifieds gathered in Western New York looking for the $5,000 grand prize. Another 51 Sportsman and Streetstocks filled the pit area, bringing the car count to 81 with just three divisions on the card.

A total of 122 cars signed in pit side last Friday night as Honeoye Auto Parts, Dig Safely NY, and Wendt's Propane presented a full card of Mighty Taco Modifieds, Original Pizza Logs Sportsman, Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstocks, Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers, and Original Pizza Logs Micro Sprints at Ransomville Speedway.

The Ransomville Lions will host the annual Lions Night at the Races, Friday, Aug. 20, at Ransomville Speedway, to benefit the Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Program.

A total of 100 cars signed in for competition June 4 at Ransomville Speedway. Mother Nature proved not to be a friend as light showers hit the area just as the hot lap session came to a close. Big R management forged on, and was able to complete the entire racing program in less than two-and-a-half hours amidst on and off moisture.

Friday, May 28, was a stellar night at the Big R, as over 100 cars jammed the pit area for the fourth straight week. Labatt and National Maintenance Contracting Corporation presented a 50-lap Mighty Taco Modified main event in addition to a complete show of Original Pizza Logs Sportsman, Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstocks, and Bobcat of Buffalo Firehall Enduros. Picture perfect weather greeted the 2,000-plus race fans in attendance as they witnessed plenty of side-by-side racing action throughout the night.

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-1 has announced that following limited attendance at its earlier session and with anticipated high boater activity this upcoming season, it will be holding another public education "About Boating Safely Course" on Saturday, June 12, at the Fort Niagara Officer's Club, 1 Scott Ave, in Fort Niagara State Park, Youngstown.
