The Greater Niagara Fish Odyssey Derby - the derby formally known as the "Fall Classic" - will be holding its 37th annual contest Aug. 17-25. In what started out as the Niagara County Fishing Derby, this competition is now open to three counties (Niagara, Erie and Orleans) in an attempt to encourage more involvement in this family-oriented event (with a big focus on the Junior Division).

The Buffalo Sabres have announced Rick Jeanneret, hockey's longest-tenured broadcaster, has signed a new, three-year contract with the team to remain its primary play-by-play voice. On Thursday, Aug. 1, from 6:30 to 9 a.m., the Buffalo Fire Department will hold its annual "Fill the Boot" program, with this year's proceeds going to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Research Team, or SMART. The firefighters will be joined by Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta, former Sabres players Andrew Peters, Darryl Shannon and other Sabres alumni on eight separate corners throughout the City of Buffalo to collect funds for the program.

The fifth annual Jason Raby Memorial 5K Race and one-mile Fun Walk is being held at Lewiston-Porter Senior High School on Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m. The event will be held in honor of Jason Raby, who graduated from Lewiston-Porter High School in 2001 and suddenly passed away at the young age of 25 while playing basketball at Niagara University in 2008.
