The teenage years are notoriously difficult to navigate. Often, music helps us to manage the stress, uncertainty and excitement of those volatile years, giving us the courage to become who we are as adults. A recently launched digital music archive, "The Adolescentia Project," shares that collective experience while exploring musical identity, media culture, and nostalgia through stories about the albums that changed our lives when we were 14 years old.

To deliver crucial dental treatment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, many of whom face immense barriers to oral health care, the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine has partnered with Arc of Genesee Orleans to provide care to patients with disabilities in Western New York throughout the summer.

The Castellani Art Museum is reopening to the public with five new exhibits and a completely revamped gallery. The museum on the Niagara University campus was closed to visitors more than a year ago due to COVID-19, and NU used the gallery as a distance classroom.

St. Peter R.C. School in Lewiston celebrated Flag Day on Friday with a group gathering in front of the church rectory. Students recited the Pledge of Allegiance before receiving a blessing from the Rev. Cole Webster. They then planted small American flags in the ground.

New York SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is issuing a statewide call to action to combat the deadliest season for young people - the summer months. Known as the "100 Deadliest Days," the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is the time when young people lose their lives most frequently in car crashes, as well as other destructive decisions. SADD is calling upon teens, caring adults, law enforcement, and the community at large to raise awareness and take action to help keep our young drivers safe.

The West Side Rowing Club (WSRC) has received a $350,000 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. The funds will support the club's existing outreach efforts to increase participation and diversity in youth rowing programs over the next three years.

In an effort to help explain how the COVID-19 vaccines were developed and how a vaccine works, the University at Buffalo Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the International Institute of Buffalo and the Erie County Department of Health collaborated on the creation of a downloadable infographic. The infographic is available in 15 languages, thanks to translation by the International Institute.

Niagara Wheatfield Central School District Community Education is planning fall 2021 classes and ask residents to share their talents, and for business owners to promote their local business with the community. Instructors can create their own content, set their own schedule/fee, and have fun! They can teach a class one time, or as many times as they like between Sept. 15 and Dec. 22.

Wilson Middle School eighth grader Rayn Cooper recently presented two checks totaling $8,000 to the Dale Shank Fundraiser at the 3F Club in Lewiston. The checks marked the successful completion of a wristband sales fundraiser Cooper held in the Niagara County community in honor of Shank - her role model - a Vietnam veteran and youth hunting mentor at the 3F who is battling cancer.

The "100 Deadliest Days" is the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when fatal teen crashes increase dramatically. Nationwide, more than 7,038 people died in crashes involving teen drivers during the "100 Deadliest Days" over a 10-year period from 2010-19. That's more than seven people a day each summer.

Thousands of girls participated in the Girl Scout Cookie Program this year and one Girl Scout, Ziyanece A. of Webster Troop 65105, achieved a groundbreaking accomplishment when she sold an astounding 7,125 packages of cookies - the most cookies ever sold in Girl Scout history for the Western New York Region (covering Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties).
