Niagara University Student Nurses Association assists community with holiday drives

The holidays will be a little happier for those living on the margins of society, thanks to the students in Niagara University's Student Nurses Association. The group has been collecting canned goods, blankets, toiletries and personal hygiene products that it will donate to Community Missions of Niagara Frontier Inc. at the end of the semester.

Niagara University announces construction of solar array on campus

This interactive exhibition, which explores the human experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, opened at the Castellani Art Museum (CAM) of Niagara University over the weekend. The public reception will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.

NYS: $28 million in federal funding to help students prepare for college

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced New York state was awarded a $28 million, seven-year Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Education to increase college and career readiness for more than 6,200 low-income New York state students. The GEAR UP program will help New York students attending high-poverty middle and high schools prepare for and succeed in college.

Niagara University honored Bishop Darius G. Pridgen, the OSC Charitable Foundation, and the Rev. Joseph G. Hubbert, C.M., at its 2022 President's Dinner, Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Niagara Falls Convention Center. Proceeds from the President's Dinner benefit Niagara University's scholarship programs. More than $275,000 was raised toward student scholarship assistance during the event.

On Nov. 15, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office deputy assigned as the school resource officer at the Starpoint School District received a report of a possible threat of violence at the school. After an investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Bureau, a juvenile student who attends Starpoint Middle School was charged with one count of making a terroristic threat (a D- felony).

Canisius sets a new standard: First in WNY to offer SAT, ACT-free admissions

Canisius President Steve K. Stoute on Monday announced the college will adopt a test-free policy for undergraduate admissions, beginning with students applying for admissions in fall 2024. The new policy removes all consideration of standardized tests (SAT and ACT) in the evaluation of admission to the college.
