'Art of Beer' returns to the NACC

A Buffalo Niagara favorite returns next week with the "Art of Beer." Now in its 15th year, the annual fundraiser benefits the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, 1201 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. Geared for the adult crowd, this enjoyable suds-taste and arts happening opens at 6 p.m. Friday, March 3, and continues to 9 p.m.
Stabbing homicide in Niagara Falls

Shortly before 2 a.m. this morning, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a motel in the 9800 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard for a report of a woman stabbed. Upon arrival, officers found the body of a deceased 39-year-old female in one of the rooms.
Sunday evening fire on Grand Island Boulevard

At 6:04 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, Grand Island firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Chateau Motor Lodge Motel located on Grand Island Boulevard. The caller advised the dispatcher that smoke was seen coming from one of the room's windows.
Fatal shooting in Niagara Falls

At approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to Jordan Gardens for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Free snowmobiling weekend: Registration waived for out-of-state snowmobilers March 3-5

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that, from March 3 to 5 this year, and annually thereafter, the first consecutive Saturday and Sunday in March will be free for all out-of-state and Canadian snowmobilers. During this promotional weekend, the requirement to register in New York is waived for properly registered and insured out-of-state snowmobiling enthusiasts wishing to explore New York's 10,500 miles of snowmobile trails.

The Niagara Falls Police Department is searching for 15-year-old Lorelai R. Russell, who was reported missing on Tuesday. Lorelai was last seen wearing a gray hoodie with anime characters, and sweatpants. She is 5 feet, 2 inches tall; approximately 80 pounds; and possibly traveling out of state and considered vulnerable.
DiNapoli calls for 'long-needed state debt reform'

New York state has one of the nation's highest debt levels, largely because measures to restrict the excessive use of debt have been circumvented over the years in state budgets. Since the Debt Reform Act was passed in 2000, state-supported debt outstanding increased by $25 billion. Over the next five years, this debt is projected by the Division of the Budget to increase by $26 billion, or 42%, from $61.9 billion in state fiscal year (SFY) 2021-22 to $88 billion in SFY 2026-27.
