ECMC to administer COVID-19 vaccine at Sahlen Field

Erie County Medical Center Corp. caregivers will staff a pop-up vaccine site outside Sahlen Field prior to the upcoming Toronto Blue Jay games - from 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 1-2. The site will provide the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Niagara County will officially open its county parks for the season on Saturday, May 29. The county operates five sites: Burmaster, Krull, Oppenheim, Royalton and West Canal. All amenities in the parks, including playgrounds, shelters and splash pads - as well as the disc golf course at Burmaster Park - are ready to go.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced the "Get a Shot to Make Your Future" incentive for 12- to 17-year-olds to get vaccinated for COVID-19. Participants can enter into a random prize drawing and potentially receive a full scholarship to a SUNY or CUNY college, beginning May 27.

The Buffalo Zoo's two African lion cubs - born to Lusaka and Tiberius on March 7 - finally have names. Members of the Buffalo Zoo community selected Khari for the boy and Zahra for the girl via an online poll. Both cubs and mother Lusaka were set to make their public debut Thursday.

In 2020, seven organizations joined together to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the founding of Le Magazin Royal, a French trading post located where Artpark stands today. Part of that commemoration involved the creation of a limited number of custom-designed medallions. Production was delayed due to the pandemic, but each organization recently received a medallion at the site of the early 18th century trading post.

Catholic Health earns top Leapfrog safety grades 'A'gain

Catholic Health has again earned the Buffalo Niagara Region's highest cumulative overall score from The Leapfrog Group. In the spring 2021 Hospital Safety Grade Report, they earned the only "A" safety grades in Erie and Niagara counties. In fact, Kenmore Mercy and Mount St. Mary's hospitals earned two of the 16 "A" grades given in all of New York.
