The newly remodeled Brickyard Brewing Company was the scene, Saturday night, for the return of "Lewiston Jeopardy!" - a beer and pizza fundraiser for the Historical Association of Lewiston. Fans filled the second-floor banquet room to watch four rounds of questions (plus the all-important final question) while also competing for raffle tickets and other prizes during the "commercials." This event - canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions limiting gatherings - raised more than $1,000 for HAL.
New Yorkers & visitors can fish for free on Saturday, Sept. 25

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced New York's fifth "Free Fishing Day" of the year is on Saturday, Sept. 25. It coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, which is celebrated annually to promote outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and target shooting. New York provides anglers with six "Free Fishing Days" each year.

'Sound Moves Me' opening at Artpark

Artpark & Company on Thursday announced a new series of interactive outdoor arts workshops titled "Sound Moves Me" set along the Niagara River Gorge in the Artpark Percussion Garden area (lower park, South Fourth Street entrance). On the closing night of the 63rd annual Niagara County Peach Festival, the Lewiston Kiwanis Club presented a check in the amount of $4,000 to the John R. Oishei Children's Hospital. The organization, on Sunday, also presented a check for $883.80 to Lewiston No. 1 Fire Co. This money will be used to purchase an additional automated external defibrillator for response vehicles.

Peach Festival: Shanya Davis named Peach Queen

Sunday night at the Lewiston No. 1 Fire Co. firehall, 19-year-old Shanya Davis of Niagara Falls was named the 2021-22 Peach Queen. She received her crown from Victoria Skrlin-Kozak, who took the title in 2019. The scholarship pageant did not take place in 2020, due to coronavirus safety restrictions.

Old Fort Niagara to host grand encampment of American Revolution

On Sept. 18-19, the American Revolution returns to Western New York in a big way. Three of the largest 18th century reenactment organizations in North America will converge on Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown for a weekend of large-scale battle reenactments, living history camps and other educational activities. The theme of the event will be "Raid and Retribution" focusing on the Revolution on the New York frontier.

Following last week's action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to amend to the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the Erie County Department of Health will provide a third dose for certain people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised due to a medical condition or receipt of immunosuppressive medications or treatments.
